Finance Committee accepts $20,000 historic-preservation subgrant for district nomination

The Green Bay Finance Committee on June 30 approved accepting a $20,000 Certified Local Government (CLG) subgrant from the State Historic Preservation office to fund a historic-district nomination.
Stephanie Hmel of the Community Economic Development Department told the committee the city is eligible as a certified local government and this is the fifth CLG subgrant the city has received. "This application will be used to do a new historic district nomination," Hmel said, noting the award is consultant-driven and requires no local match.
Hmel said prior funding supported an intensive historic survey done in four phases and that the consultant bid estimates formed the basis for the $20,000 award. She added that city staff time will be limited to coordinating meetings and mailings on the consultant’s behalf.
Alder Shelton moved to accept the subgrant; John Chilton seconded the motion. The committee approved the acceptance by voice vote.
The next step is for staff to execute the grant documents and coordinate with the consultant on the nomination schedule and public-notice requirements.
