DuBois council votes to disband Environmental Advisory Committee after public requests to fill it

The DuBois City Council voted to disband the DuBois Environmental Advisory Committee at its July 1 meeting. Councilmember Sam moved to disband the committee; a roll call produced six votes in favor and one opposed.
Dr. Hank Webster, a resident who addressed the council during the agenda public comment period, had urged the board to appoint members to the environmental advisory committee that the council approved in May and requested that a seventh member be added to reach a full committee. He said the group had been preparing to meet in late July and sought council appointments.
Despite that plea, the council approved the motion to disband. The roll call recorded Perilla voting “No”; Sullivan, Whitaker, Beers, Douge, Mica and Abett voted “Yes,” and the motion passed.
Council members did not adopt an alternative plan during the meeting to fulfill the functions previously assigned to the advisory committee. The disbandment will remove the standing advisory body unless the council later votes to reconstitute or replace it.
The vote followed public comment and occurred under unfinished business; council members who spoke afterwards thanked staff and reflected on transitional work but did not reverse the action.
