The Kewanee City Council voted unanimously to award the demolition of 724 Madison Avenue to Dana Construction under Resolution No. 5144 on Feb. 11. Council Member Steve Faber moved the award and Council Member Chris Colomer seconded; the roll call was 5–0 in favor.
Council Member Michael Yaklich questioned whether using the funds for the sidewalk-replacement program would be a better allocation of resources. City Manager Bradley replied that both the demolition and sidewalk expenses come from the General Fund and therefore have a net wash on that fund; Bradley said staff will include the last sidewalk-replacement bid information in the next packet to inform future decisions. Council Member Colomer cautioned that bidding the sidewalk separately could slow the timetable on demolition and associated work.
The contract award was approved without amendment and the City Manager will execute the demolition contract with Dana Construction as authorized by the resolution.
