Kewanee suspends curbside pickup for week of Jan. 28; lists warming centers and extra trash allowance

City Manager Bradley told the Kewanee City Council on Jan. 28 that city crews would not conduct trash collection that week because of inclement weather and that affected residents could leave up to four bags or cans (each up to 33 gallons and/or 50 pounds) for collection the following week.
Council Member Chris Colomer urged residents to stay inside during record cold, and City Manager Bradley recommended bringing pets indoors. When asked about warming centers, Bradley said the Kewanee YMCA, Wethersfield School District facilities, Kewanee School District facilities and Kewanee City Hall would serve as warming centers and that information was available on the city website.
The announcement followed an executive session earlier in the evening; the Council took no vote on emergency funding or formal policy changes at the meeting. The Council also thanked staff for work during the weather event.
