Three newly elected members sworn in as Tempe council begins new term

Arlene Chin, Brooke St. George and Bobby Nicholls were sworn in as members of the Tempe City Council during the council’s regular meeting, taking the statutory oath required of Arizona public officers.
City Clerk Cara Dear Rastia administered the oaths. Each new member repeated the pledge to support the U.S. and Arizona constitutions and to faithfully discharge the duties of council member for the city of Tempe, then signed a certificate of office.
The swearing-in was followed by brief remarks from the new council members. Vice Mayor Chin thanked campaign volunteers, city staff and family, saying, “There are simply not enough words to express my gratitude.” She referenced the city’s nearly 2,000 employees and said she looked forward to ‘‘respect, collaboration, and a focus on results’’ in serving residents.
St. George reflected on returning to serve the community that raised her and emphasized listening to residents and making informed decisions on their behalf. Nicholls thanked supporters and labor and reiterated his priorities of housing affordability and workers’ rights, saying he would govern consistent with his political commitments.
Mayor Woods invited the full council for a group photo and noted a reception would follow the meeting in the Don Cassano Community Room at the Tempe Transportation Center.
The council’s next regular meeting was announced for Aug. 31, 2026.
