Brownwood council approves temporary Austin Avenue closure for First Baptist Church 150th photo

The Brownwood City Council on March 10 approved a resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into an agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation to temporarily close FM 2524 (Austin Avenue) from Fisk Avenue to Center Avenue on April 19 from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. so First Baptist Church of Brownwood can gather for a 150th-anniversary group photo following its Sunday service.
Deputy City Manager Ray Tipton said TxDOT has indicated verbal approval because the short closure will not significantly disrupt traffic. The Brownwood Police Department and Street Department will assist with traffic control. Tipton noted the process is the same used previously for Howard Payne University homecoming events.
Councilmember Ed McMillian moved and Councilmember HD Jones seconded approval of the resolution; the motion carried unanimously. Resolution No. R-26-09 was read into the record authorizing the temporary closure.
