Mayor Friday Ellis opened remarks by thanking residents for attending and summarizing recent city service metrics and initiatives. He said the sanitation crew had collected more than 1,862 bags of litter, "506,130,000 gallons of water has been treated," Public Transit gave over 40,784 rides, Monroe Regional Airport provided 1,900 flights of service and served 184,000 passengers; crews cleaned 22.5 miles of pipes and 1,060 catch basins and removed 59 truckloads of debris. He also announced the Workforce Board is partnering with Bluvera on a job fair to discuss data‑center careers and asked Marcus Brown to brief the Council on a new program.
Marcus Brown, president of the nonprofit Sons and Daughter Nela, told the Council the organization is in an early stage and "they want to show the community that there are not a lot of destructive young people they just need to teach the young people to be constructive." Brown asked the Council to consider a future partnership so the nonprofit can offer constructive activities for youth.
Chairman Woods also reminded residents of an upcoming "Chat & Chew" event on March 19 at the Powell Recreation Center and provided election reminders for a March 29 election with early voting March 15–22.
