The Monroe City Council unanimously approved a package of resolutions that included two open‑container exceptions, a streetlight audit contract and two lead‑remediation projects.
Resolution No. 8894 grants an exception to the Open Container Ordinance for the Ouachita Presbyterian Church’s community event at Forsyth Park; Resolution No. 8895 grants an exception for the Twin City Art Foundation’s Off the Wall annual fundraiser at the Masur Museum of Art. Both were moved by Mr. McFarland, seconded by Mr. Harvey, and approved without public comment.
The Council also approved Resolution No. 8896, authorizing a contract with Tanko Streetlighting, Inc. to conduct a citywide street light audit and outage inspection. Director of Administration Stacy Rowell told the Council that "the City of Monroe doesn’t own majority of the lights in the City; they are owned by Entergy," and that the audit will be used to coordinate repairs with the utility.
In Planning & Urban Development matters, the Council approved Resolution No. 8897 for lead remediation at 2411 Grammont Street and Resolution No. 8898 for lead remediation at 200 Malvern Street. Director Ellen Hill said the 2411 Grammont property tested positive for lead "inside and out" and noted that a child resides there; Hill said this is the fifth and largest lead‑remediation project currently under way.
All items were approved unanimously. The Council did not receive public comment on these resolutions during the meeting.
