RSU 23 presents 2015–16 budget proposal with 3% increase; public workshops scheduled

Superintendent Lloyd Crocker told the RSU 23 School Board on Feb. 10 that the 2015–16 budget proposal the district will present reflects roughly a 3% increase on a current baseline of $12.3 million.
Crocker said the 2014–15 budget remains under a discretionary freeze for the rest of the school year. The district scheduled a budget workshop at the Loranger library for Feb. 11 and a second meeting on Feb. 24 to review the proposal with the public. Crocker also said a meeting with Sue Reed about a possible Pre-K program is scheduled for March 3.
The facilities committee has met with architects from Oak Point and Harriman and the district is awaiting bids, Crocker said. Administrators noted ongoing discussions about creative space use, including a possible move of 3rd grade to Loranger for 2015–16, to accommodate K–8 needs and a potential Pre-K.
The board did not take final budget votes at the Feb. 10 meeting; the workshops are scheduled to provide public review before formal action.
