At its Aug. 11, 2025 meeting the Village of New Bremen council moved and voted on several ordinances and resolutions. Key votes and formal actions recorded in the minutes included the following:
• Excuse council member: Councilman Larger moved to excuse Councilman Burnell; motion seconded by Bertke and passed (five ayes).
• Consent agenda: Councilman Larger moved to approve the consent agenda, including the meeting agenda and minutes from the July 28, 2025 regular meeting. The motion was seconded by Councilman Condon and passed with six ayes.
• Sunshine-law designee (Third Reading, Ordinance 2025-07-14): Council designated Amy M. Speelman, Village Fiscal Officer, as the designee for public-records and sunshine-law training for the mayor and council. Motion by Bertke, second by Condon; five ayes.
• Refuse contract (Third Reading, Ordinance 2025-07-08): Following a July 14 bid opening that produced a single bid, council awarded a three-year refuse contract to Maharg’s; the bid included no increase to current bag or tag prices. Motion by Condon, second by Bertke; five ayes.
• Emergency tariff amendment to 2023 purchase order (Declaring Emergency Resolution 2025-08-13): Council moved to amend a 2023 purchase order for a Terex Commander 5045 digger truck to include a 1.50% steel tariff of $5,468. Council suspended the rules (motion by Bertke) and declared an emergency (motion by Pulskamp, second by Hurley); motions passed with five ayes.
• Executive session and adjournment: Council entered executive session at 6:56 p.m. on a motion by Bertke, second by Larger (five ayes) to discuss purchase or sale of property, reconvened at 7:36 p.m. with no action taken, and then adjourned on a motion by Bertke, second by Larger (five ayes).
