The Village of New Bremen council on June 23 approved an emergency resolution to renew its annual property, vehicle and equipment insurance for a one-year term starting July 1, 2025, with a premium cap of $87,171.
Village Administrator Richter told council the Ohio Plan renewal reflected a 12.7% increase over last year, driven largely by adjusted replacement-cost values for police and fire equipment. Richter said staff had contacted the insurer, Stolly, to explore raising the collision deductible from $1,000 to $2,500 or $5,000; Richter reported those deductible increases would reduce the premium by about $809 and $1,455, respectively, and that a more detailed premium breakdown would be available in roughly one week.
Council moved to suspend the normal rules to act on the renewal and then passed Emergency Resolution 2025-06-07 approving the renewal not to exceed $87,171. The motion passed with six ayes.
The renewal is set to take effect July 1; council asked staff to return with the insurer’s itemized premium breakdown before the renewal date.
