The Town of Otisfield Planning Board on April 14 approved an amendment to a previously permitted subdivision common area at Pond View Estates (Map U20/Lot 49) to address severe shoreline erosion. J. Whiting, a Planning Board member, presented the application describing damage to access platforms and docks and a platform collapse in the past year.
"Erosion is causing significant damage to the platforms providing access to the water, as well as to the associated docks, with a particular platform having collapsed in the past year," J. Whiting said when presenting the application. The project proposal calls for regrading up to 100 feet of shoreline in accordance with Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) practices, construction of a new berm tied into the existing berm to protect stormwater runoff, installation of a new platform atop the berm, and revegetation of the disturbed area.
A motion to approve the application as presented was made by A. Grant and seconded by H. Olsen and was recorded as passed. The board had earlier noted that Whiting would abstain from voting on the agenda item he presented; the minutes record the approval as unanimous among voting members.
The Board did not provide additional funding details or a construction schedule during the presentation. The approval includes adherence to DEP shoreline-protection practices cited during the meeting. The Board postponed approval of the March 10, 2026 minutes to a future meeting and moved on to other business.
Next steps: the applicant or the town staff will proceed with the project consistent with the approved plans and DEP practices; any required permit filings or implementation dates were not specified in the meeting record.
