Lisa Railing Mobley, trainer at Onslow County Senior Services, said the department has organized a caregiver workshop to give unpaid caregivers information, resources and a brief respite. "Caregivers are forgotten," Mobley said, adding that many caregivers "work 24/7" and need both practical resources and peer support.
The free event is scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Onslow County Government Center. Mobley asked attendees to register in advance by calling 910-989-3017. The program will feature guest speakers, light refreshments, raffles and tables staffed by partner organizations, including Legal Aid of North Carolina, community paramedics, the Area Agency on Aging and Project Lifesaver (represented in remarks by Sergeant Winters).
Mobley described the county's caregiver support group as an ongoing network that provides 24/7 peer support, not just a monthly meeting. "If you need help, if you need support, if you need somebody to talk to, we are there for you," she said, urging caregivers who support people with dementia, Parkinson’s or other chronic conditions to attend.
The announcement highlights local services and links attendees with both legal and medical resources intended to reduce isolation and improve caregivers’ ability to find services. Organizers emphasized that there is no admission fee, but registration is required to help plan seating and materials.
