Laketown — The Laketown Town Council agreed on June 3 to hold a town 250th-anniversary celebration on July 2 at the South Shore Barn, using a $6,000 county grant offered to each community for celebration-related activities.
Mayor Brandon Willis reported the county is providing $6,000 per community to support 250th events; the funds are not restricted to a specific date and may be used at any time. After discussing options including fireworks, music and a community dinner, council members agreed on holding dinner at 7:00 p.m. at the South Shore Barn followed by a fireworks display at 9:00 p.m. Council estimated planning for about 300 attendees and decided the city park would not accommodate a sit-down dinner for that size.
The town will solicit bids from local restaurants to cater the event and established June 11 as the deadline for catering proposals. The town will supply plates, napkins, utensils, tablecloths, drinks and dessert. Clerk Lisa will work with the Activity Committee to prepare promotional materials and a flyer.
