Bay Shore board elects Andrew Akiri as president, welcomes new vice president and student member

The Bay Shore Union Free School District Board of Education elected Andrew Akiri as board president during its reorganization meeting and selected a new vice president as part of its annual leadership reorganizing.

The changes were approved after nominations were offered; a board member nominated Andrew Akiri for president and the motion carried. Board members also nominated and approved a candidate for vice president; the transcript includes both the names "Guy" and "Kai" in references to that nomination, and the board congratulated "Kai" after the motion carried.

The reorganization meeting also welcomed a new student board member. Nila Khan introduced herself, saying she has previously sat at the table, will be a senior in September and is active in extracurriculars: "This isn't my first time sitting at this table. I've been in full for student round table and this September I'll be a senior. Some things I'm involved in is I I'm on the varsity bowling team and I am the Science Olympia captain for this school year," Khan said.

Board members gave brief thanks to outgoing leadership: one speaker thanked Sue for her service as president over the past year. The meeting proceeded to routine consent items and scheduled dates for the coming school year.

The board concluded the reorganization portion and continued to consider consent agenda items, staff appointments and other routine business later in the meeting.
