The Waverly Village Council voted to donate $1,000 to the Canal Kaboom fireworks event.
During the mayor's report, the mayor described Canal Kaboom as a well-attended community event and suggested the village consider a contribution. "I would make a motion to donate $1,000 to that effort," a council member said; another member seconded the motion.
The council approved the donation by roll-call vote. Council members present recorded "Aye" votes: Wilkes; Brian Blackman; Bevins; Forest Blackman; Gideon; Kennison; and Patterson.
Council discussion noted that Canal Kaboom is run on private land (noted as Ewing's land in discussion) and that organizers have established a 501(c)(3). No additional funding or conditions were attached to the donation vote at this meeting. The council carried the motion and moved on to other business.
The donation will be processed per the auditor's routine payments procedure.
