Cameron Parish School Board approves leases, personnel items, calendar change and more

At its May 12, 2025 meeting the Cameron Parish School Board approved a variety of operational motions and administrative items.
The board accepted the highest bidder for alligator egg collection on the east side of Cameron Parish (bidder listed as Chris McCall Little Pecan) on a motion by Joe Delcambre, seconded by Sharon Picou, as presented by Mr. Michael Cassidy of the District Attorney's Office. The board also approved a lease of Lacassine Section 16-12-5 to Mike Miller and Brent Morvant for $2,500 on the same motion pattern.
The board authorized the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority to perform a cultural resources survey (motion by Joe Delcambre, seconded by Christi Labove, presented by Mr. Michael Cassidy). Administratively, the board approved projected personnel positions for the 2025–2026 school year, approved related salary schedule changes/additions, and authorized the Superintendent to advertise and fill open positions for 2025–2026 (motions presented by district staff).
Policy JCDA (Student Code of Conduct) was reviewed and approved to remain unchanged for 2025–2026 after the annual Discipline Policy Review Committee meeting. The board approved a 2024–2025 calendar revision that moved the student exit day to May 21, 2025 and the teachers' exit day to May 22, 2025, and approved Johnson Bayou High School's request for a field trip to Main Event in Beaumont, Texas on May 15, 2025 as an end-of-year reward for AR goal achievers.
The board voted to enter executive session to discuss the Superintendent's evaluation and a complaint with JDEC regarding electric problems; roll call was recorded. After returning to open session, the board approved the Superintendent evaluation rating of 'excellent' as discussed in executive session.
Most motions were recorded as approved by roll call with all present members voting in favor; the minutes list Randall Faulk as absent.
