Cromwell library commission reports consortium switch to Polaris ILS, staff training during transition

At its June 8 meeting the Cromwell Library Commission heard that all libraries in the consortium went live with the Polaris integrated library system at 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, a change Director Kara Canney said has generated some unexpected lags as staff and systems settle in.
Canney said library staff have been working to maintain service and assist patrons through the transition, and described two full professional development days held while the library was closed. Staff used the time to journey-map the library experience from multiple patron perspectives, role-play difficult service scenarios, shelve and clean collections, and practice new platforms and associated forms intended to accompany the Polaris rollout.
The director framed the work as preparation for smoother, more consistent patron service as the system change settles. Commission members did not vote on the migration itself during the meeting; the report was informational.
The commission's acceptance of the Library Director's Report later in the meeting formalized receipt of the update.
