North Knox reports summer-school reading gains and high-school credit recovery

Board members told the North Knox School Corporation meeting that summer programs produced measurable student gains and helped seniors recover credits needed for graduation.
"We had actually nine third graders and one second grader pass the I-Read," Matt said, describing outcomes from the district's condensed summer remediation and retesting program. He credited smaller class sizes and one-on-one testing for the results and thanked teachers and aides by name for their work.
Emily Morland, who said she worked closely with small groups, added that students made "really significant gains" over the short program. Administrators also reported that a high-school credit-recovery effort enrolled roughly 24–26 students and resulted in about 23 recovered credits, including several seniors who regained coursework necessary to earn diplomas.
Administrators and board members framed the results as evidence that focused summer programming can clear grade-level and graduation hurdles. They also thanked staff and families for supporting students' participation.
Board members did not propose new funding or structural changes during the update; the remarks were presented as progress reports ahead of the regular academic year.
