North Knox board approves budgets, personnel slate and demolition contract

At its May meeting the North Knox School Corporation board approved routine consent items including the 2026‑27 special education co‑op budget, administrators' contracts, an MOU for ABA centers, summer school, multiple personnel resignations and hires, and awarded a demolition contract for the Edwards Port East building to Robinson Excavation.
The North Knox School Corporation board approved a series of routine consent and business items at its May meeting, including budgets, personnel actions, program approvals and a demolition contract.
The board approved last month’s meeting minutes and the financial claims and statements after motions and unanimous voice votes. The board also approved the 2026–27 special education co‑op budget so the district can proceed to the special education meeting next month.
Administrators’ contracts for the 2026–27 school year were presented and approved following review of evaluations. The board also approved a memorandum of understanding for applied behavior analysis (ABA) centers submitted by the special education department.
The board received a first reading of a revised corporal punishment policy and administrative guideline; that item will return for consideration at a later meeting and required no immediate action.
The board approved the district’s summer school program at North Oaks Intermediate (June 1–12) to provide remediation and credit recovery. It also approved multiple personnel actions: the board accepted resignations including several extracurricular sponsors and coaches and approved hires for academic coaches, teachers, summer staff, nurses, instructional aides and bus drivers as presented.
On facilities and contracts, the board reviewed specifications for demolishing the Edwards Port East building (Tab G). The board confirmed ownership transfer from the North Knox Building Corporation to the North Knox School Corporation to permit contracting and identified Robinson Excavation as the apparent low bidder. The contract allows a potential start around June 1 with specified work‑hour restrictions and no weekend work; the board moved to award the contract pending the contractor’s final agreement.
Administrators also updated the board on capital work at the high school, including concerns about switchgear replacement and the district’s contingency planning for power shutdowns (use of generators to protect HVAC and avoid humidity/mold issues). The superintendent warned that state policy changes (discussion referenced as Senate Bill 1) and broader property‑tax reform are likely to place financial pressure on districts over the next several years, but he said North Knox expects no staff reductions for the 2026–27 school year.
The board set the next meeting for June 15 at 5:00 p.m. and adjourned.
