Selectmen flag potential $11,333 annual cost from hazardous‑waste contract change and review revenue reports
Summary
First Selectman Joe Bellavance warned that Mid‑Neroc’s decision not to separate hazardous waste could add about $11,333 per year to the town’s expenses or forfeit $20,000–$30,000 in savings; the board also reviewed fiscal reports (printed to May 31, 2026) and discussed $217,000 in outstanding revenue and single‑family dwelling permit counts.

Joe Bellavance told the board that Mid‑Neroc will not separate hazardous waste from the bulky‑waste contract, which may force the town to either add roughly $11,333 a year to its budget or lose an estimated $20,000–$30,000 in annual savings from bulky waste removal. Bellavance said he would consult Mid‑Neroc and town finance staff about options.
During the meeting the board reviewed printed revenue and expenditure reports through May 31, 2026 (financial report pages were included in the meeting packet). Selectwoman Kayla Burgess asked whether the town expects the $217,000 in outstanding revenue to decrease; S. Cates replied yes. Bellavance also reported 13 single‑family dwelling permit applications through May compared with 18 at the same time last year and nine in the prior year; he noted the count excludes certificates of occupancy and cited a conservation‑subdivision moratorium in effect Jan. 1–June 30, 2026.
The minutes record these discussions but do not show budget adjustments or a vote related to the Mid‑Neroc contract during the meeting; Bellavance said he would follow up with Mid‑Neroc and the finance department.
