Claiborne Parish School Board approves travel, E‑Rate contract, 13th‑check estimates and personnel updates

The Claiborne Parish School Board on Nov. 7, 2024 approved routine business items including out‑of‑state travel, an E‑Rate internet services contract, estimates for a December 13th‑check payment, and several personnel changes.
Superintendent Brooks requested approval for Mr. French, Supervisor, to attend the National Alliance of Black School Educators (NASBE) International Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, Nov. 20–24. Superintendent Brooks stated the trip will be paid with Title I funds. Linda Knox moved to approve the travel request, Tommy Davidson seconded, and the Board approved the request by a vote of 8–0.
The Board approved an Internet services contract under the E‑Rate program. Ms. Sheppard reported that three bids were received and, after scoring, recommended continuing with Uniti, the district's current carrier. Ms. Knox made the motion to approve the contract, seconded by Mr. Davidson; the motion passed 8–0.
Ms. Turner provided preliminary estimates for the district's 13th‑check payments to be distributed Dec. 6: $3,161.55 for professional staff and $1,359.47 for support staff. She stated the exact amounts will be determined after month‑end. Ms. Turner also briefly reviewed October 2024 financials.
The Superintendent's personnel report listed recent activity: hiring Amber Barton as a Homer Elementary teacher effective Oct. 22, 2024, and recorded resignations and retirements including Patricia Eddens (retired, effective Oct. 29, 2024), Miya Robinson (resigned Oct. 11, 2024), Mysty Henry (resigned Oct. 16, 2024) and Hunter Fertenbaugh (resigned Oct. 25, 2024). The minutes also note reminders that an Accountability Overview meeting will be held Nov. 12 and that the December regular called meeting is scheduled for Dec. 5 at Haynesville Elementary Gym.
In recognition of Red Ribbon Week, Christy Chandler, Alternative School Principal and Drug Free/Safe School Coordinator, recognized essay winners in multiple grade categories; Superintendent Brooks congratulated the students. With no further business, David Nokes moved to adjourn, seconded by Roy Mardis.
