Cameron Parish School Board advances policy revisions, Pupil Progression Plan and reviews emergency-medication language

The Cameron Parish School Board on Sept. 8 approved a set of policy revisions presented by Superintendent Charley Lemons that align district policies with changes from the 2025 Louisiana regular legislative session, including revisions to instructional materials, technology/internet acceptable use, student absences and excuses, bullying and hazing, expulsion, child abuse reporting, and behavioral health support for students.
The board also approved revisions to the district's Pupil Progression Plan and advanced it for review by a local stakeholders committee to gather input before final adoption. Separately, the board received proposed wording changes to Policy JGCD (Administration of Medication) that would add language explicitly allowing staff to administer life-saving medication during medical emergencies.
Administratively, the board received updates on construction and repair projects funded through FEMA, CDBG and general fund sources from Hoffpauir Architects, LLC and project staff. The board approved a Grand Lake High School National Honor Society field trip to NASA in Houston, Dec. 4-6, and received a written superintendent's report outlining recent district activities: staffing and professional development, a digital forms initiative called Droplet, a bid opening for the SCHS gym, review of LEAP data, school visits and teacher recognitions, and participation in state-level leadership calls and LHSAA advisory work.
The superintendent's report recorded that district staff met with representatives from Cameron LNG on Aug. 26 regarding a possible PILOT arrangement and met with First Horizon Bank on Aug. 27 to discuss future financial planning. The board adjourned following the superintendent's report.
