Burlington library cites strong youth turnout; trustees weigh Boys & Girls Club satellite to reach teens
Summary
Trustees reported a surge in youth attendance — about 60 attendees for a trilingual 2nd-grade tour, 250 third-graders for a field trip, and 16 teens at a paint-along — and discussed opening a Boys & Girls Club satellite at the former Maiben Library to better serve after-school teens.

Trustees at the Burlington Public Library reported strong participation in recent youth programs and discussed steps to better serve increasing teen usage after school.
The minutes state that about 60 people attended a trilingual (English, Spanish, Mixtec) tour for Allen Elementary second graders. The library also hosted all 250 Burlington Elementary School District (BESD) third graders for a field trip that included a visit with author and illustrator Ben Clanton; the evening presentation by Clanton drew several hundred attendees, and the elementary "Book Battle" finalists competed at the event. Trustees recorded the teen paint-along as the most well-attended teen program of the year so far, with 16 teens in attendance.
In new business trustees discussed rising teen presence after school and options to serve them, including exploring a satellite Boys and Girls Club location at the former Maiben Library because many teens do not travel to the current West View site. The minutes also note that the library at the former West View will be cataloged and managed by the Burlington Public Library. Board members continue to advertise for teen board members but had not received candidates by the meeting.
The minutes also recorded two incident reports involving middle school students; trustees noted both were resolved appropriately. The board reviewed a 2026 year-to-date financial report and found it "on track," though the minutes did not provide additional budget detail.
