Committee hears PV, landscaping and athletic‑field updates; Town Manager denies repaint funding

Project representatives updated the Cromwell Middle School Building Committee on June 17 about the photovoltaic (PV) system, landscaping and athletic-field work, and the committee heard a Town Manager letter denying a repainting request.
Shannon Hughes-Brown, the committee chair, read a letter from Town Manager Salvatore saying he denied a $24,950 request to repaint the halls at Cromwell Middle School. The letter also stated that Planning and Zoning approval is not required for fencing at the softball field; the Town Manager said he would approve lower-cost work to extend fencing over dugouts and would approve the outfield fence and yellow toppers but described those costs as excessive and asked for clarification on whether the "backside of the fence" referred to the warning track. The chair said Rosanna Glynn was following up to get that clarification.
On the PV system, Joe Culotta reported that submittals are being reviewed and processed and that a pre-construction meeting for the PV system was scheduled for the following morning. Chris Archer said the sod installed adjacent to the athletic field is acceptable but "the turf around it is not acceptable as it is in the process of being established," and that he would keep the irrigation contractor on site for areas around the sodded fields if the referenced motion were approved. Archer also reported that contractors proceeded on some softball-field work to meet contractual obligations and that a stop order was issued only on change-order work, meaning some work has been paused pending further pricing and review.
The committee approved the planting and parking-lot island areas shown on slide 9 by unanimous vote. Chris Archer said gym "claws" installation is expected to take approximately three days and that contracts for the work are expected to be fully executed by the end of the week.
There were no public comments and no additional board announcements; the meeting adjourned at 7:53 p.m.
