During old business the board heard an update on the Long Term Capital Committee. Matt Allen reported that Dave Lee is finishing a spreadsheet that rates and catalogs all town assets, using data collected by committee members. The goal, Allen said, is to know asset ages and conditions so the town can plan for future replacements and repairs before the next budget cycle.
First Selectman Joe Bellavance added that he has compiled a list of real estate owned by the town. Committee members discussed how other towns operate, the potential to apply for grants, selling town-owned property to complete projects, and the value of community engagement with residents about long-term priorities.
Why it matters: an accurate, prioritized inventory of assets is a foundation for capital budgeting and can affect which projects the town funds or seeks grant support for in future budgets.
