Police Chief Davis reported on Aug. activity and recent grant awards during the Sept. 9 meeting. The chief said the department issued 50 citations in August, handled 13 calls, made two arrests and forwarded three cases to the district attorney. Total fines collected were $7,869.53, including $777.38 handled by AMS, and the department said 1,572 outstanding warrants remain on file.
Chief Davis told aldermen the department was awarded a $35,000 LGAP grant last month and used the funds to purchase a new police unit, two radar guns, two 2026 four-wheelers, 12 life jackets, ammunition, and body cameras with a docking station. The department has also applied for a grant to renovate the police facility.
On an added-agenda item, the board approved declaring a 2017 black Chevrolet Tahoe police unit surplus and voted to donate it to the Town of Greensburg. Alderman Young moved to add the donation to the agenda; Alderman Beauchamp seconded the motion. Alderman Betrece moved to declare the Tahoe surplus and donate it; Alderman Beauchamp seconded the donation motion and the board passed it.
