Clinton approves revised parade routes and sets safety rules for school and Mardi Gras processions

The Town of Clinton Mayor and Board of Aldermen on Sept. 9 approved a revised parade permit and detailed routes for upcoming school parades and the Mardi Gras parade, Mayor Mark L. Kemp said.
The board accepted a route that will leave the Clinton Middle School parking lot via the side gate, proceed along Feliciana Drive, turn onto Church Street, continue onto St. Helena (Main Street) past Landmark Bank, then follow Spring and Jackson streets before returning to the school on Feliciana Drive. A separate Silliman School route will loop from its parking lot into town on St. Helena Street and return to the school via Bank Street, the mayor said.
The board limited motorized float trailers to 38–39 feet and prohibited cotton-wagon–type trailers because their axle geometry makes tight side‑street turns unsafe. Motorized parade entries must display a visible entry number on the passenger-side windshield and organizers must provide a list of entrants with assigned numbers in advance. The town banned ATVs/UTVs/four-wheelers, horses and handlers with snakes; service dogs are permitted. Music with profanity, vulgar or sexual content is prohibited and violators may be cited and removed.
Silliman School’s parade is scheduled for Oct. 10 at 10:30 a.m.; East Feliciana’s homecoming parade is scheduled for Oct. 31 at 11:00 a.m.; the Mardi Gras parade will occur in January 2026, Mayor Kemp said. Alderman Beauchamp moved to accept the revised parade application and route; Alderman Morris seconded the motion and it passed.
The mayor said cleanup for school parades will be coordinated with school staff; the Mardi Gras parade is organized privately and the sponsoring organization will be responsible for cleanup. The board also assigned Aldermen Betrece and Young to work with Mayor Kemp to review and update the town’s parade ordinance.
