Marblehead board approves $49,750 contract for transfer-station post-closure monitoring

The Marblehead Board of Health voted Oct. 8 to award a $49,750 Post-Closure Environmental Monitoring and Inspection Contract to engineering firm Haley Ward to monitor sampling at the town transfer station.
The motion, recorded in the board’s minutes, passed unanimously after the contract was presented during Health Director Andrew Petty’s report. Petty described an Oct. 22 bid for a wider compactor project at the transfer station and said the work will separate the compactor control room, two ancillary guard shacks, a scale house and a swap shed; he said construction is expected to begin after the new year.
The contract with Haley Ward covers post-closure environmental monitoring and inspection associated with transfer-station sampling; the minutes list the award amount as $49,750. The board did not record objections or abstentions.
Petty also reminded residents that the Household Hazardous Waste collection will be held Oct. 16, 2024, from 4–7 p.m. at the Transfer Station; the event is a pay service and fees are posted on Marblehead.org. The board noted that new Health Inspector Steven Moody is scheduled to start Oct. 23, 2024.
The board moved on to other routine business and adjourned at 9:37 p.m.
