The North Knox School Corp board voted to accept a $21,000 donation from the Foundation for the Future to be held for a future bus purchase and approved multiple personnel recommendations during the meeting.
The board accepted the donation by voice vote. The board also approved the resignation of instructional aide Samantha Smith, hired part‑time custodian Megan Wright, approved the temporary employment of fourth‑grade teacher Ginger Kirk for the second semester, granted a six‑week leave of absence beginning Jan. 8 for Maline Trout and approved Kiana Gilhousen as the substitute during that leave.
In a principal’s report, the principal described a new school‑store fundraiser to support classroom teachers: "It's to aid the teachers in their classrooms," the principal said, explaining parents would scan QR codes tied to student lanyards to donate. The principal also outlined testing windows: READY testing on Jan. 27–28 for the building and WIDA testing for English learners beginning immediately, and noted recent classroom visits that included a mini‑animal presentation.
The board congratulated student wrestler Olivia Canal on qualifying for the girls state finals in Indianapolis and noted community partnerships, including a Knox County Extension Board appointment of Jennifer Nettles. Trustees set upcoming meeting dates for Feb. 9 and March 9 at 5:00 p.m. before adjourning.
