Cedar Hill meeting roundup: fall festival, TDOT subdivision concern, hazard-mitigation update and routine financial report

The Cedar Hill Board of Mayor and Commissioners received updates on several administrative and community items at its Oct. 6 regular meeting.
Mayor John Edwards announced a Fall Festival scheduled for Oct. 18 from 5–8 p.m. He said he and Bob Stroud have discussed adding a stage for the University of Tennessee football game. The mayor also summarized a forthcoming subdivision plan behind the Dollar General, saying the designed road is not wide enough to be connected to a state highway and that there are drainage concerns; he said the design will be presented to the city at a later date.
Edwards said he has spoken with State Representative Dr. Sabi Kumar to seek help advancing a tornado-related grant project. He also reported that Cedar Hill did not participate in the 2016 Hazard Mitigation Plan, a lapse that has complicated grant eligibility; he said he is attending meetings to reestablish the town's participation in current mitigation planning.
City Recorder Gayle Bowman told the board that "revenues are currently outpacing expenses" and reviewed the fiscal year 2024–2025 audit with the commissioners. City Manager Kevin Breeding reported that two properties will receive code-enforcement letters and that several other problem properties are working toward compliance. Breeding said one property has multiple tires requiring disposal; he has contacted the state about disposal options and informed the owner of available remedies.
Commissioner Frank Kirby asked about a recent community dumpster cleanup; Mayor Edwards said the new vendor worked well, the shorter dumpsters made it easier for residents to place items inside, and one full dumpster was collected Sunday. There were no public comments recorded.
The board adjourned at 6:37 p.m.
