Penn Forest supervisors approve auditor appointment, donations and multiple personnel actions

Penn Forest Township supervisors took a series of routine financial and personnel actions at their Jan. 6, 2025 regular meeting at the municipal building in Jim Thorpe.
Supervisor Roger Meckes, chairman of the Board of Supervisors, led the meeting that approved Resolution No. 4 of 2025 to appoint Zelenkofske Axelrod LLC to examine all township accounts for fiscal year 2024. The resolution passed by roll-call vote with all five supervisors recorded as voting yes.
The Board also approved several donations and requests: it denied a donation request from Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania; approved a $10,000 donation to Penn Kidder Library; and approved $2,500 donations to the Olympian Booster Club and Jim Thorpe Youth Soccer (the vote on the Jim Thorpe Youth Soccer donation recorded one abstention). The Board accepted the Treasurer's report for December 2024 (subject to audit) and authorized payment of the December bills.
On appointments and membership, the supervisors adopted Resolution No. 5 of 2025 appointing Supervisor Patrick Holland as delegate and Supervisor Christian Bartulovich as alternate to the county tax-collection committee. The Board also approved a three-year International Code Council membership for $405.
In personnel actions the Board voted to terminate a township laborer and then approved hiring moves: Jay York was hired for the Code Enforcement position effective Jan. 13, 2025 at $24.00 per hour; the Board approved hiring a working foreman at $23.05 per hour and a township laborer at $21.05 per hour, and authorized advertising to fill additional positions including Jay's former spot.
The supervisors accepted a West End Equipment quote for replacement plow pistons at $743.95 and granted an exemption from 2025 garbage-permit fees for Beltzville Lake Estates after receiving required documentation. The Board scheduled a public hearing for Feb. 3, 2025 at 6:45 p.m. to consider the intermunicipal transfer of liquor license R20745 from 632 Rte. 940 LLC to 1295 State Route 534.
The Roadmaster reported ongoing snowstorm cleanup and the transfer station provided December revenue and permit-count figures; zoning and building reports were submitted for the Board's record. No non-agenda public comments were recorded. The Board adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
