Porter County parks staff report stable finances, record visitation and operational updates

Staff noted visitation numbers were on a record-setting pace ahead of winter-light events and credited advertising and a new sign for increasing attendance: a public commenter said some seasonal events drew just under 1,300 attendees for a specific event compared with roughly 865 in the prior year. Staff also described recent capital and maintenance work: electric panels in a parking lot were replaced, a new playground and shelter order was placed, and Hawk Ridge is slated to open in May after spring cleanup.
Operational items included starting a volunteer program, continued partnership with a local food pantry to collect eggs and produce donations, and minor maintenance planning for snow-season staffing. The board received the reports, thanked staff and volunteers, and then moved to adjourn by voice vote later in the meeting.
