Council OKs advertisement to add North Cedar four‑way stop and make section of Pine Lane one‑way; neighbors ask for direct notice and data

The borough will advertise an ordinance to establish a four‑way stop at North Cedar and North New streets and to make a portion of Pine Lane one‑way, moving the matters to a future vote after public advertisement and comment.

Streets staff said an engineer’s study found the four‑way was warranted at the North Cedar intersection and that a crash at Pine Lane & Orange Street prompted consideration of making Pine Lane one‑way because the alley is narrow and sight distance is limited. The advertisement step begins the formal public‑notice process; final action will come at a subsequent meeting after public comment and any required analyses.

Residents including Karen Wyel (202 N. Cedar St.) requested direct notification to the closest neighbors—she said four residences abut the intersection and additional nearby households should be informed because properties have no front setbacks and changes are disruptive. Wyel also asked to see the traffic study and for an estimate of vehicles per weekday that would stop at the new four‑way; staff said they would follow up by email and consider providing the advertisement and study where permissible.

Council approved a motion to advertise the proposed traffic changes. Several council members suggested an on‑site meeting with affected residents and the chief to explain changes and gather feedback before final action.
