Commission defers proposed regulations for cluster mailboxes to next month

Staff said the Postal Service’s 2017 requirement for cluster mailbox units prompted the draft, which addresses off-street parking, sidewalk access, lighting, and distance from collector streets. Commissioners raised questions about thresholds for requiring off-street parking, whether small subdivisions should be exempt, and whether mailboxes could be placed effectively in cul-de-sacs without blocking right-of-way. Several commissioners asked for photos or diagrams to be included with the draft.
Robert Varnell said he would revise the draft and bring a simplified version back next month; the item was moved to the next month’s agenda.
