The Cameron Parish School Board on July 14 authorized the advertisement of bids for a new gymnasium at South Cameron High School and approved contracting an architect to provide a cost estimate for renovating a warehouse at 3151 Trosclair Rd., a step tied to a possible sale of 510 Marshall St., Cameron.
James Hoffpauir of Hoffpauir Architects LLC reported that the gym bid advertisement began June 26, 2025, and that a pre-bid conference is scheduled for July 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at South Cameron High School. Bids are due July 31, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at 510 Marshall St., Cameron. Hoffpauir also updated the Board on FEMA, CDBG and general fund construction, repairs and renovations across permanent and temporary sites.
On the motion of Sharon Picou, seconded by Christi Labove, the Board voted to move forward with hiring an architect to estimate renovation costs for the warehouse at 3151 Trosclair Rd. The motion was presented by Superintendent Charley Lemons and passed by the Board.
Robert Gates, maintenance and transportation supervisor, provided the Board's maintenance and transportation updates related to ongoing construction activity and site repairs. The Board noted that some projects remain pending insurance and FEMA review before work proceeds.
The Board's action keeps the gym project on a timeline for contractor bids this summer and preserves progress on facilities planning while the district pursues cost estimates and clarifies funding and insurance approvals.
