Board approves fiber maintenance, internal fiber upgrades and UPS purchases to boost network capacity

The East Lansing School District Board of Education approved a package of technology contracts to maintain and upgrade the district network: an annual maintenance agreement with Fiberlink for $28,000; a Lake Tech contract for internal fiber installation for $45,797.50; and the purchase of UPS hardware from MOSS for $84,554.72.
Trustee Taiki moved to approve the Fiberlink maintenance agreement, which Trustee Edel seconded. Christian (district IT staff) explained this maintenance covers district-owned fiber that connects buildings back to the high school and that the work is part of an ongoing USAC/E-rate funding process under which the district currently pays roughly 20% of eligible costs. Christian said existing internal fiber (OM2) is limited to 10-gig capacity between wiring closets and that the planned replacement will increase available bandwidth and allow newer hardware to operate at higher speeds. Trustees also approved related purchases to replace aging power supplies in wiring closets.
All three motions passed. Staff said final execution of contracts and some payments are contingent on USAC/E-rate approvals; the district will proceed with scheduling and inventory efforts once funding confirmations arrive.
