Board approves East Lansing High School trip to Germany for summer 2027

The East Lansing School District Board of Education approved a request from Robert Filter and Adam Orange for a high school student trip to Germany scheduled June 24–July 15, 2027. The trip continues a multi-decade partnership with Seabolt Gimnazium in Verdsburg and will include travel to Berlin, Dresden and Munich plus a home-stay component with the partner school.
Trustee Chambers moved the motion and Trustee Martin seconded. Robert Filter described prior trips (14 students and five adults in the referenced year), hosting of partner-school students at last fall’s homecoming, cultural and industry visits (including a prior factory visit), and the educational value of international exchanges. Filter said families can use payment plans, World Strides offers financial aid and scholarships for eligible families, and Mr. Orange administers a small local scholarship fund to assist students.
Board members praised the program’s depth and early planning to make the trip affordable and accessible. The board voted to approve the trip; staff will complete final arrangements and communications with participating families.
