Board discussion noted recurring leaks at the school and the district’s strategy of funding periodic building replacements through the sinking fund rather than the 2024 bond; staff said the roof project was budgeted in the sinking fund and is not eligible for bond money. Trustees said they wanted to schedule work for the summer to avoid disrupting learning.
District leaders said some bond-funded work will still occur at McDonald Middle School this year (door-lock upgrades, carpet replacement and concrete/parking repairs), but the roof project will proceed from the sinking fund. The board called the vote and the motion passed.
Next steps: staff will finalize contracts and schedule construction during the summer months to minimize impact on students and staff.
