The handbook edits included updating the table of contents, renaming "tornado drills" to "severe weather drills," adding impetigo and MRSA to communicable-disease guidance, clarifying early dismissal ID checks, and specifying technology use and limitations in lower grades. Staff noted the handbook reflects board policies as of June 22, 2026.
Members also discussed summer interventions: a targeted three-week summer school starting in late July for selected students and optional, low-stress summer engagement ideas such as library reading challenges and suggested reading lists. Staff cautioned that many optional packets historically have low uptake and emphasized balancing expectations for families.
A board member requested a summary of the recent "alpaca" morale survey be presented at the July meeting to evaluate continuing the survey.
The board approved the handbook changes and directed staff to finalize the updated handbook pages and staff lists.
