Woodson County approves $23,210 sheriff's office roof; sheriff warns July law could strain jail budget

Woodson County commissioners on June 16 approved a $23,210 bid from Shepard Farm and Construction to install a new roof, gable and awning at the sheriff's office.
Jason Shepard of Shepard Farm and Construction described ongoing water infiltration at the building during heavy rains and presented roofing and awning options. Justin Clark moved to approve the Shepard Farms bid, Kevin Stuber seconded, and the motion passed. The project will be funded from the Courthouse Equipment Reserve.
Sheriff Jacob Morrison also flagged a law scheduled to take effect July 1 regarding jail OR bonds and discussed the possible impact on the jail budget. Commissioners discussed the county's 911 Fund and the prospect of rebuilding it if remaining Dispatch budget funds are available at the end of the year.
The approved roof work follows the sheriff's report of water-related damage; the bid approval was the formal action to proceed with repairs. The board took the vote during its regular business session and adjourned at 10:34 a.m.
