Harbor Committee to host fishermen meet-and-greet; Selectmen weigh public-launch sites

The Cushing Harbor Committee will sponsor a cook-out on May 17 for commercial fishermen as a meet-and-greet and to gather input, Selectman Daniel Staples told the Board of Selectmen.
Selectmen also discussed possible sites for public water access. Kevin Benner, who launches boats, reported that a parcel on Stones Point Road is too steep for safe public launching. The access near Old Settlers Cemetery and Old Settler Lane presents safety and current-related concerns and could be costly if the town must build a road. Selectman Staples said the board still wants to know whether the owner would sell and at what price; Chairman Alton Grover will contact Mrs. O'Hara to ask whether the owner remains willing to sell. Selectman Staples and Harbormaster Austin Donaghy identified a piece of land on Maple Juice Cove that might work, though the parcel is not currently for sale.
No formal vote was recorded on any purchase or plan; the board’s discussion centered on gathering information about feasibility, cost and owner interest before any decision.
