Eastpointe celebrates Pleasant View turnaround, honors students and spotlights CTE culinary program

The Eastpointe Community Schools superintendent reported that Pleasant View Elementary has been released from its partnership status after several years of focused work by school staff, central office personnel and community partners.
"This is a result of several years of work of the Pleasant View staff, central office team and our MISD partners," the superintendent said, congratulating teachers and students on the progress. Trustees and community members repeatedly praised the school and its principal, citing sustained improvement.
The superintendent also highlighted the Eastpointe High School production of Alice in Wonderland and said more than 100 students at the high school qualified for the honor roll. The districts CTE culinary program hosted an honor-roll breakfast where students prepared eggs to order; trustees singled out Chef Shu and the student cooks for commendation.
Public commenters also used the meeting to ask operational questions: one resident asked why the finance report was missing from the consent agenda and expressed concern about not receiving a finance report until December. Another resident, Jennifer Nicholas, asked about the districts master plan vision-boards in schools and whether student feedback is being collected. "I was just curious on how that's working out," she said.
Trustees used their comments to congratulate staff and students, advertise upcoming community events (a blood drive Dec. 1 and a tree lighting Dec. 3), and thank administrative staff, including the board secretary, Wendy. The meeting adjourned at 6:59 p.m.
