East Lansing board approves updates to policy on instructional programs and media materials

Trustee Ferris Highlands noted the policy had been in committee for "at least 6 months, maybe 8, maybe 10," and thanked staff and committee members for their work. There was no extended debate during the meeting, and the motion to adopt the updates passed by voice vote.
The board did not detail enforced procedural changes or cite specific title removals during the public meeting; trustees said the policy was intended to create clearer processes for evaluating media-center materials and curriculum when concerns are raised.
The board’s next regular meeting is May 11, 2026.
