Superintendent announces central office move, pauses LifeTouch services and flags summer programming cuts

Superintendent Leo told the board Feb. 23 that several central administration departments have moved to a new building at 6160 Tower Avenue; the district is pausing activities with LifeTouch pending review of allegations; and grant funding for summer programming has ended, prompting prioritization of ESY, credit recovery, transition programs and limited elementary camps.
Superintendent Leo reported several operational and programmatic updates at the Feb. 23 East Lansing School District board meeting.
Leo said central administration functions — including the superintendent’s office, assistant superintendent, business, human resources, special education and equity and social justice — have moved to a new central administration building at 6160 Tower Avenue. He said technology, operations and maintenance will remain at East Lansing High School and that additional parking for the March 9 meeting will be available across the street at Tower Heart Baptist Church.
On vendor matters, Leo announced the district is "pausing all activities with Life Touch photography in light of recent allegations." He said principals reported no spring events scheduled with the vendor and that the district is "actively reviewing the available factual information" before deciding on future work with LifeTouch.
On summer programming, Leo said grant funding that supported robust summer offerings since COVID is no longer available. The district will prioritize limited summer offerings in this order: extended school year (ESY) for students with qualifying IEPs (a required service), high‑school credit recovery, middle school 101 and high school 101 transition programs, then elementary summer learning camps. Leo said the district will evaluate costs and notify families soon about which programs will be offered for summer 2026.
He also reviewed calendar dates: March 26 (district half day for students), spring break March 27–April 5, April 24 (staff professional learning day, no students), Memorial Day May 25, and the last day of school on June 5 (half day).
