East Lansing School District board adopts updated 2025 HIV/STI unit for grades 7-8

The East Lansing School District Board of Education voted March 9, 2026 to adopt the revised 2025 Michigan Model HIV and other STI prevention unit for seventh- and eighth-grade health classes, replacing the districts 2010/2012 unit.

Ann Scott, the districts sex education supervisor, told the board the Michigan Department of Education had integrated HIV/STI prevention into the broader Michigan Model health curriculum and that the updated package includes three core HIV/STI prevention lessons. "The three core lessons are up to date. Theyre in a virtual format which our educators are very excited to have access to," Scott said, summarizing the advisory boards recommendation.
