Council hears updates on maintenance building, WCUD projects and SRTS extension; attorney flags enforcement challenges on engine brakes

A representative from WCUD reported the utility continues to work on water-quality issues and other projects; a pump station contract has been signed and the project will use Spencer/VBC ARP funds. The WCUD representative said staff will reach out to property owners about cleaning fence rows related to site maintenance.
Zeda Hillis, representing James C. Hailey, delivered a JCH update: an extension for the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) project has been requested, required documentation has been submitted, and the request is pending approval.
Alderman Nance relayed that a homeowner reported trucks using engine compression brakes (commonly called 'jake brakes') within city limits. City Attorney Ed Boring said the city would need to adopt an ordinance to prohibit the practice but cautioned that monitoring and enforcement would be difficult.
No votes were taken on these updates; the council adjourned after the reports.
