Demorest council reschedules public hearing on proposed multifamily use at 415 Fisk Avenue to June 2

The Demorest City Council on May 5 agreed to reschedule a public hearing on a request to permit multi-family residential use at 415 Fisk Avenue after the applicants asked for more time.
City Attorney Thomas Mitchell told the council that questions about the application remained. The request, filed by Alan Baker and Philip Smith, seeks a special-use permit for multi-family housing on a 4.14-acre parcel identified as Tax District 05, Tax Map No. 078 122. The applicants asked the council to postpone the hearing to allow more time to address outstanding issues.
Mayor Jerry Harkness asked the council to set a new hearing date. Councilman Jimmy Davis moved to reschedule the hearing to June 2 at 7:00 p.m.; Councilman Andrew Ferguson seconded. The motion carried 3-1, with Councilman Shawn Allen recorded as opposed.
The city posted that interested parties may examine proposed plans at Demorest City Hall, 250 Alabama Street, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The council did not take any substantive action on the land-use request at the May 5 meeting; the matter will be considered at the rescheduled public hearing on June 2.
