The Demorest City Council on March 3 approved a package of routine operational items and motions, including intergovernmental agreements, equipment sales and a preliminary plat, and tabled consideration of a municipal employee benefits proposal.
Council voted unanimously to table the Georgia Municipal Employee Benefit System proposal to allow additional review after discussion during the work session. The council approved preliminary plat applications from Jackson Bailey Group, LLC to subdivide 133 and 161 Blue Ridge Avenue into three R‑1 single‑family lots; Councilman Andrew Ferguson moved to approve the submitted plat and Councilman Jimmy Davis seconded.
The council also authorized payment of Invoice #26972 to MPE Services in the amount of $24,800 for installation of the East Mize Road pump, classified as a budgeted capital improvement. The council approved an intergovernmental lease allowing Habersham County to operate the city‑owned Demorest Fire Station at 125 Ivy Street (first year rent $30,000 with CPI adjustments and automatic one‑year renewals for up to five years). Separately, the council approved a five‑year lease for the 2022 Spartan pumper truck with annual lease consideration of $90,000 credited against existing fire service agreements, and approved an intent to sell $75,000 of fire equipment to Habersham County (creditable over four years beginning Jan. 1, 2027). The council also approved the sale of 13 Scott SCBA frames and 23 cylinders to the Gainesville Fire Department for $24,500.
All motions recorded during the March 3 meeting passed unanimously with the vote tallies reported as 4‑0 on the official record. Several items were presented by City Manager Mark Musselwhite and required only brief comment before the motions were called and passed.
