The Carlson family requested that Demorest close the alley at Walnut Avenue and Ohio Street during the city’s May 5 work session, saying no utilities run through the alley and that closure would resolve a property-line issue involving a garage.
City Attorney Thomas Mitchell told the council that, if the closure is approved, he will set the cost based on assessed value and that the minimum will be 1.5 times the assessed value. City staff recommended proceeding with the closure process; the transcript does not record a final council vote on the matter during the work session.
The request as described to the council will require staff follow-up on formal notifications, utility confirmation and an official cost calculation before a final action can be taken. The council adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
